Mental Health Care Hampton
The pandemic reminded us all about many important things, including the importance of mental well-being. Self-care is integral to our wellbeing at any time throughout our lives, but especially during stressful and emotional periods. Newbay Medical Clinic has the expertise to diagnose and manage mental health conditions that could impact your daily life. We can help you get the help and support you deserve.
What We Can Help With
Newbay Medical Clinic‘s GPs are trained to diagnose and manage mental health problems, such as:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Panic Disorders
- Peripartum mental health concerns
- Other mental health conditions.
Why invest in mental health?
Investing in your mental health is essential for your overall quality of life Recognising areas where you may need assistance and seeking the support you need can make a big difference in your future and present self.
Sleep Better
Good mental health helps you to ‘switch off’ at night so you can sleep well.
Feel Happier
We want you to feel every ounce of happiness possible!
Stress Less
Stress can cause a decrease in your immune system making you more susceptible to infections and viruses.
Reduce Anger
You may feel angry or irritable if you don’t address your mental health problems.
Enhance Relationships
Your overall well-being is enhanced by having good relationships with other people in your life.
Increase Self-Esteem
Low self-esteem is not a sign of a mental illness, but they are closely linked.
Answers to your Mental Health Questions
You can discuss your thoughts with your doctor by setting up a mental health care plan. A standard 20-minute appointment can be made with any of our GPs to set up a mental care plan. However, you may request a longer appointment if needed.
A mental health plan can provide up to 20 sessions per calendar year.
The gap payment will be $46 regardless of how long it takes to set up your mental healthcare plan.
Medicare pays a portion for your sessions with your psychologist.
Mental health conditions are more common than you may think! According to the 2007 National Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing, one in five Australian adults had a mental disorder in the previous 12 months, and nearly one in two Australians will experience a mental health disorder during at least one point in their lives.
At Newbay Medical Clinic we offer a range of mental health support for people with long-term or non-emergency mental health conditions. Please make a booking to discuss with a GP and develop a mental health plan to overcome these hurdles.
If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, however, please call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or text them on 0477 131 114.
Your Mental Health Partner
Your GP plays an important role in your mental health journey. Although we are not the person to offer counselling or mental health therapy, our role is that of your guide and coordinator, making sure you get the right care. In addition to being able to refer you to the relevant care provider, we can prescribe medication and coordinate multi-disciplinary care if you require support from more than one specialisation.
