Mental Health Sandringham
Mental Health Care Sandringham
We have all been reminded of many things by the pandemic, with mental health being the most important. Self-care is essential to our well-being at all times, but it’s especially important during stressful or emotional times. Newbay Medical Clinic’s team is skilled in diagnosing and managing mental conditions that can affect your daily life.
Why invest in your mental health and well-being?
Investing in your mental health is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Recognising the areas that you are struggling in is crucial for your future self and can help you get the help you need.
Good mental health allows you to “switch off” at night so that you can sleep well.
We want to make sure you experience the best possible happiness every day!
Stress can reduce your immune system and make you more susceptible to infections and viruses.
Anger and irritability can be caused by untreated mental health issues.
Your overall well-being is enhanced by having good relationships with other people in your life.
While low self-esteem itself isn’t a mental health condition; the two are strongly linked.
Questions about Mental Health Answered
The best way to discuss your thoughts and concerns with your doctor is through mental health care plans. Although a 20-minute appointment is sufficient to establish a mental health plan with one of our doctors, it’s possible to request a longer appointment for more detailed discussions.
A mental health care plan offers up to 20 sessions per calendar year.
Regardless of the length of your appointment to set up your mental health care plan, the gap that you pay will be $46.
Medicare will pay a portion of your visits to your psychologist.
Mental health conditions are more common that you might think. The 2007 National Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing found that one fifth of Australian adults have had a psychological disorder within the last 12 months. Nearly one-third of Australians will also experience a serious mental health condition during their lifetime.
At Newbay Medical Clinic we offer a range of mental health support for people with long-term or non-emergency mental health conditions. Please make a booking to discuss with a GP and develop a mental health plan to overcome these hurdles.
If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, however, please call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or text them on 0477 131 114.
Your Mental Health Partner
Your GP is crucial in your mental wellbeing journey. Your GP is not the one who can provide you with counselling or mental health therapy. However, we can be your guide and coordinator to ensure you receive the care you require. If you need support from multiple specialties, we can also refer you to the appropriate provider.
